Guests forget the centrepieces. They do not forget being made to feel unsafe, an MC who talked over the moment, or a band that never got the room up. These three decide how your party feels.
Security is hospitality, not muscle
Good event security is barely noticed. It controls the door calmly, keeps uninvited crowds from drifting in, watches the gift table, and manages the car park so arrivals are not chaotic. Badly done, it is aggressive and your guests feel it immediately.
- Agree who is allowed in, and who decides in a grey case.
- Assign one person to the gifts, all night, with no other duty.
- Brief them on the family — nothing is worse than an elder being questioned at their own child's wedding.
Your MC runs the programme, not the show
The best MCs are invisible between moments. They keep the programme moving, hand over cleanly, and read the room when something is running long. The worst ones perform — filling every gap, cutting into moments that should have been left alone.
Brief your MC on names and pronunciations in writing, days before. Getting a family name wrong in front of three hundred people is remembered far longer than it should be.
The band is a timing decision
A live band changes a room in a way a playlist cannot — but only if it starts at the right moment. Too early and it plays to an empty floor while people are still eating. Too late and you have lost the guests who were ready an hour ago. Agree the trigger, not the clock time: the band starts when the main service is clearing.
Sound is a venue question
The same band sounds different in a marquee and a concrete hall. Whoever runs your sound should see the room before the day, and there should be one person responsible for both the MC's microphone and the band's mix. Two systems fighting each other is a common and entirely avoidable problem.
Brief all three together
The MC, the band and your coordinator should have the same running order in front of them, and should have spoken once before the day. Almost every programme that drifts, drifts because those three were briefed separately.
